The major news from Week 1 was Aaron Rodgers rupturing his Achilles on the fourth play. Jets fans finally had something to look forward to, but the hope vanished almost immediately. Rodgers is not ruling out a return to football next season, but we will see. Currently, the Jets are taking on the Cowboys on the road this week, and Zach Wilson is the starting quarterback for now.

The Jets performed well on Monday night in their win over Buffalo. It took a punt return in overtime to seal the deal, but it counts the same as every other win. They forced four turnovers (one fumble, three interceptions) and tallied five sacks. The defense kept them in the game, and special teams won it.

Dallas smothered Daniel Jones on Sunday night. They recorded seven sacks and did not allow a point. They ran the ball efficiently against the Giants, averaging 4.1 yards per carry and scoring three rushing TDs. Tony Pollard ran 14 times for 70 yards and two TDs in his first game as lead back.

Is Zach Wilson the Answer?

Zach Wilson performed decently given the circumstances but must play better if they want to have a chance to win this week. He should be better prepared, as should the offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett. Hackett likely had a condensed playbook for much of the game in Week 1 because he prepared for Rodgers to take the snaps. Wilson and Hackett have had time to prepare and practice more plays heading into this week, which should help slightly. The Cowboys will bring heavy pressure, so the Jets should try to run the ball or get rid of it quickly. The Jets allowed three sacks and eight quarterback hits against Buffalo in Week 1. The Cowboys should find Wilson during this game, and he must take care of the ball in those scenarios.

Wilson should be a solid game manager if he does not hold on to the ball too long. Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson make things easier because they are explosive. The Jets need to give them the ball and let them go to work. Zach Wilson should not have to air it out for this offense to succeed. The Cowboys allowed 3.9 yards per carry last week, which means the Jets should be able to run the ball with Hall and Dalvin Cook.

Can the Jets Stop the Cowboys’ Run Game?

The Jets’ defense will come to play like usual and should offer the Cowboys some problems. The Cowboys’ offense did not face much adversity against the Giants, so we do not know how they respond. Dak Prescott did not have to air it out, so he limited his mistakes. The rushing attack of the Cowboys should be the priority for the Jets. They did well against the Bills except for stopping Josh Allen‘s rushing. He averaged six yards per carry from the quarterback position, but the Jets should not worry much about Prescott running. The Jets need to make Prescott throw the ball to have a chance in this one. Turnovers will be pivotal, as always, and the Jets are good at creating them. The Cowboys could get surprised by this scrappy Jets team.

The pick: Jets +9 (-110)
