Betway Premier League Week 12: MVG to get back on course with pair of wins

Betway Premier League Week 12: MVG to get back on course with pair of wins

Michael van Gerwen may have lost last week but he will come back swinging with two victories in Cardiff

Michael van Gerwen had looked unbeatable in the Betway Premier League this year; that is until last week in Aberdeen when he was toppled by Raymond van Barneveld. The World Number One was not at his best as he went down 7-3, but a 99 average is hardly bad and not exactly a sign of him hitting a sticky patch. Mighty Mike has tough fixtures against James Wade and Gary Anderson in Wales, but these are men he has already defeated in the Betway Premier League this season; both by seven legs to four. Wade is very inconsistent at the moment and has lost 11 of his last 12 against MVG. The Flying Scotsman is playing better, but is without a win in three and has a poor head-to-head record with Van Gerwen (winning eight and losing 17). The World Number One is well worth backing twice this week; at 8/15 against Wade and 10/11 versus Anderson.

Gary may struggle against MVG but he should put Stephen Bunting to the sword in the first contest of the evening. Bunting has not won since week six and, although he is picking up the odd draw, does not look impressive enough to beat any of the main contenders. The World Champion has won five of his six PDC encounters with the Bullet and he will win this one at 4/7.

Raymond van Barneveld against Dave Chisnall is a tough one to call as both are looking really good at the moment. Barney has picked up back-to-back wins over Phil Taylor and Van Gerwen whilst Chizzy has won four of his last five and still sits second in the table. Chisnall may have lost to Taylor last week but he still averaged comfortably over 100 and if he can do that again (which he can) then he has every chance against RVB. Chizzy has been the far more consistent of the two over the campaign which makes him the more tempting price at  11/8. Especially as he has triumphed in their last two clashes on tour.

Finally, there could well be an upset as Adrian Lewis looks to leapfrog Taylor with victory over the Power in the Welsh capital. Jackpot has really turned his form around in recent weeks, winning three on the spin in the Betway Premier League and picking up two Players Championship titles as well. The Power may have beaten Chisnall last week but after drawing with Bunting later in the evening he’s left with just two wins in his last seven. His finishing is nowhere near its best at the moment whilst Lewis averaged 50% on the doubles last time out and this is where he can punish his fellow Stokie. Jackpot is great value at  7/4 to beat Taylor for the fifth time in Betway Premier League history.
